Can I really be happy?

Hello and WELCOME to my blog!  My mission is to inspire you as you are going through your adventure we call "LIFE."  I m here to share my mentors and experiences to help you overcome any obstacle.  Someone once told me "For things to Change, you have to Change" Jim Rohn.

Now this is interesting...  What is the true definition of being Happy?  Can I really be happy?

A mentor of mine, Fred Wikkeling, author of "Look UP," a certified instructor for the Napoleon Hill Foundation and master of DISC People (Personality Profiles), gave me a book called "The Power of the Platform." Marci Shimoff, an expert in happiness, success, and the law of attraction says YES we can!  Marci shares with us a glimpse of her New York Times bestseller "Happy for No Reason:  7 Steps to Being Happy from the Inside out."  She defined happiness in four categories:

Unhappy-  Depressed, anxiety, fatigue, feeling down and out.   Although it doesn't require clinical treatment, so you don't need professional help.

Happy for Bad Reason- This is when you find your escape from your unhappiness by endulging in your addictions.  This includes drugs, too much television, sex, alcohol, gambling, over eating, etc..

Happy for Good Reason- Only when things are going your way and you are getting what you need/want are you happy.

Happy for No Reason- This is true happiness - a state of peace and well-being that isn't dependent on external circumstances.

Marci goes on about a scientific breakthrough in finding our "Happiness Set Point."  Which means, no matter how happy or excited we get or how horrible of a day we are having we end up back to our "Happiness Set Point."  "Being Happy For No Reason is a level of well being that can give us any emotion we choose to feel."  If this is true, we can all be happy right?  Yes we can! But how?

Marci shares with us three tips:

  1. Savor the good - Instead of focusing on all your negative feedbacks or criticism, look at all the positive feedbacks instead.  Take 20 seconds out of every "happy" moment, whether its that chocolate you've been craving for, or a compliment you received that day.  See the difference as you practice soaking in a little bit of  happiness that you feel on any given time.
  2. Make Your Cells Happy - Smiling makes great practice to being happy.  Ever notice when you smile anyway how your mood and environment changes and as you do it throughout the day, it becomes real.  Scientists found that smiling reduces stress hormones.
  3. The Fringe Benefits of Happiness - "Research shows that people who are happy earn over $750,000 more in their lifetime than others."  Happy people seem to attract health, opportunities, deeper friendships, and more money.

"While success isn't the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success" Marci Shimoff

So I challenge you this 2010!  I challenge you to be HAPPY FOR NO REASON and watch your life change dramatically.  In fact, lets share this experience together.  I would love to hear your story!

Make it a Beautiful Day!
